Journalists of Public Broadcaster violated Charter's principle
14.03.2018
The applicant, the head of Georgian Trade Unions Confederation Irakli Petriashvili expressed concern over two video materials. One was about a hunger strike of a worker against the Georgian Railways. The second one was about elections in Georgian Trade Unions Confederation. The materials included comments of the Parliament members – Levan Gogichaishvili and Levan Koberidze who accused Irakli Petriashvili of being politically affiliated. The Council thought that Irakli Petriashvili was not given a chance to respond to the accusations. Therefore, the Council concluded that the journalists, Lika Alelishvili and Rati Khvistani did not respect the public’s right to get balanced information containing comments from both sides of the conflict and as such violated the first principle, on accuracy.  Only the applicant attended the hearing. The journalists did not cooperate with the Charter.
