Giorgi Gasviani violated Seventh principle
11.03.2019
Giorgi Gasviani, the host of the disputed TV program, asked the question „Has Achi Purtseladze ever been violent to a woman?“ to which the guest of the program gave a positive answer and the discussion on the topic followed. The Council determined that the respondent provided the journalist with the information that he had committed violence against a woman, but this should not be perceived as an ordinary fact and the presenter should have expressed a clear negative attitude to violence against women. In the disputed episode, according to the Council, the woman is portrayed as an object whose abuse is a negligent act, the journalist promoted discrimination against women and enhanced the stigma that certain amount/ dosage of violence against women might be a necessary and acceptable action. Consequently, the Council concluded that the Seventh (discrimination) Principle of the Charter was violated.

The Charter Council reviewed the case remotely without summoning the parties.
