Non-identified journalist of TV Imedi violated Charter's first principle
06.03.2018
The video material was about protest of people living on Kipshidze Street #14 in Tbilisi. One group of residents was opposing construction of a building. They believed that the construction permit was given based on a falsified document. One of the protesters blamed Lali Sakvarelidze, the applicant, who works in the Tbilisi Public Hall, in issuing the permit based on the falsified document. The video did not contain Lali Sakvarelidze’s comment. According to her, she was not even contacted by the journalists. Therefore, the Council concluded that the journalist did not respect the public’s right to receive accurate information containing comments from both sides of the conflict and as such violated the first principle. Only the applicant attended the hearing. The TV company did not provide the Charter name of the person responsible for the video.
